The VA North Texas Health Care System is seeking a full-time Physician (Radiation/Oncologist) to provide patient care in outpatient clinics and/or inpatient wards for Radiation/Oncology Service. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Physical Requirements: See outlined below. English Language Proficiency. Duties include the following: -Provides patients with accurate and compassionate treatment. - Provides services in an efficient, timely, high-quality, cost effective manner within budget allocation. - Participates in recruitment, hiring, evaluation and disciplinary actions for staff as needed. - Works under the guidance of the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service and otherstaff as appropriate, supports operations issues/problem resolution in a logical, step-wise fashion. Participates in a forum in which staff identifies, communicates, and resolves issues related to Radiation Oncology Service, Medical Center ancillary and support operations, and VISN-wide mandates. - Works under the guidance of the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service and other disciplines as necessary to support, contribute to and implement policies, procedures, performance goals, strategic plans and initiatives. - Seeks and enhances opportunities to promote and strengthen the Medical Center's and VISN goals. Responsible for implementing the goal of improving care for patients within the Medical Center and VISN. - Has applies an understanding of managed care practices, including health care finance, billing, coding and documentation. Knowledge, ability and willingness to use and promote the dissemination among clinical staff of current automated technology for Health Information Management Sections (HIMS), patient data tracking, patient orders, etc. - Contributes to the development, maintenance and enhancement of relations with internal and external entities including but not limited to: community providers, medical and nursing schools, therapist training programs, local public and private health care entities, colleagues in other Patient Services and Integrated Services such as Information Technology, Laboratory, and Business Office, labor, and VISN. - Participates in Radiation Oncology Service strategic planning as needed. - Participates in local administrative, management, quality assurance, and other assignments, meetings or committees as needed. - Performance reflects and demonstrates support of the Chief, Radiation Oncology Service, Chief of Staff, Medical Center Director's, VISN Network and national goals. - Participates in regular peer review activities. - Must be alert to patient's condition and disorders and attends to patients who require immediate attention to prevent patient harm. - Maintains patient records and files. Follows HIPPA guidelines regarding patient information. - Ensures timely completion of daily clinic notes with accurate documentation and coding ofservice rendered. - Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiation safety procedures to maintain occupational exposures \"as low as reasonable achievable\" (ALARA). - Follows established safety practices and reports to Chief as promptly as possible to unsafe conditions, unsafe practices or any occupational illness or injury sustained. Adheres to all safety and health standards, regulations, work practices and uses proper protective equipment as required. - Participates in quality assurance (QA) activities to include and provide data collection, data analysis, and trends and reports on changes based on data collection. - Wares dosimeter badges in compliance with radiation regulations and guidelines of the state. - Wares Hospital Identification Badge in accordance with hospital regulations. - Maintains compliance with applicable Hospital and VA Policies. - Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
