Fairview Health System is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible General Surgeon to join our Acute Care Group located at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital. Surgeons would maintain a three-week rotation consisting of one week acute care, one week off, and one week endoscopy, clinic and elective general surgery.
The Acute Care Surgeon will be responsible for the surgical needs of M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital, a busy 390 bed hospital and level 3 trauma center. This includes cases such as bowel obstructions, cholecystitis, appendicitis, bowel perforations, wounds, and Level 3 type trauma. The Acute Care Surgeon will rotate in the general surgical call pool at night, approximately 1:7. When not on Acute Care, the surgeon will maintain a general surgery clinic and perform general surgical procedures. Surgeon is encouraged to perform endoscopies.
Practice Details:
Join a team of two dedicated Acute Care Surgeons and 5 additional general surgeons
Clinic location: Fairview Surgical Consultants - Edina (10 minutes south of Minneapolis)
Surgical cases performed at: M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital and the Edina Specialty Surgery Center in Edina, MN.
Admitting Hospital: M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital
Full time (1.0 FTE).
Call Frequency: 1:7. Typically 1 day per week (5 pm-7am). Coverage for M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital only.
Acute care hospital coverage; cover inpatient hospital and ER patients for one week at a time, M-Su, 7am-5pm. One week every three, variable.
Cover night and weekend call on a per FTE basis with other partners
You will be supported by 5 excellent Physician Assistants in the office and operating room.
Opportunity (but not obligation) to teach and work with a fourth-year surgical resident from Hennepin County Medical Center.
M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital is a 390 bed facility with up to date surgical suites, including 3 dedicated robotic suites
Full-time access to interventional radiology, ERCP, and vascular surgical services. 3 dedicated robotic surgical suites.
A team of anesthesiologists, CRNAs, Physician Assistants, perioperative staff and perianesthesia staff provide support to surgeons.
Level 3 Trauma Center staffed 24/7 with Emergency Medicine Physicians.
Most patients are admitted to the 24/7 Hospitalist Service.
We have a fully coordinated Electronic Medical Record (EPIC).
Strong primary and specialty care referral base within MHealth Fairview system. Also work closely with several independent primary care and Ob/Gyn clinics.

Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited ACGME General Surgery residency program.
Board eligible/certified with the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Licensed or ability to acquire Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure.
Ability to acquire/maintain DEA certification in the State of Minnesota
ATLS Certification
Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Outstanding teamwork abilities with partners and staff.
Understands and places importance on patient care/service.
Detail oriented and self-motivated
Education focused and a creative problem-solver
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal flexible endoscopy training
Formal laparoscopic surgery training, curiosity about robotic surgery
