JOB SUMMARY: Provides advanced pre-hospital and inter-facility patient care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility. Maintains thorough patient care documentation of assessment and intervention throughout the entire transport and will practice within the scope of practice as defined by the state of Tennessee and programs protocols. Demonstrates proficient clinical knowledge and competency of psychomotor skills during transport and will maintain through actively participating in ongoing advanced skills laboratories and hand-on clinical exercises. Acts as a clinical role model and resource to resolve complex situations and patient care issues. Participates in improvement activities and problem solving projects as assigned by the leadership team. Communicates safety concerns to leadership team, educational needs of customers and service area and deliver stellar customer service to both internal and external customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans and manages care according to the LifeFlight and VUMC standards while able to independently plan, deliver and evaluate goal focused, individualized, safe, age specific care for all patients within the scope of TN and Vanderbilt Scope of Practice.
Maintains clinical proficiency and competency per regulatory and accreditation compliance.
Participates in (self and program) improvement activities and problem solving projects.
Reviews current research and participates in applying findings for evidence based practice.
Competent in documentation that accurately reflects care provided and meets LifeFlight documentation standards.
Competent in collaborative communication to facilitate quality patient care and ensure safe hand off when care is relinquished at the accepting facility.

Our flight medicine personnel normally work one 24-hour shift and one 12-hour shift per week. We use self-scheduling to offer you the flexibility to enhance your work/life balance.

Department/Unit Summary
Vanderbilt LifeFlight is Tennessee's premiere air medical transport program, providing service via helicopters, a fixed wing aircraft and ground ambulances. Our team has an accident-free safety record since its inception in 1984. We accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) and are an IFR program. Our aircraft fleet includes the following: EC145, EC-135, and EC-130. Our fixed-wing aircraft is a Pilatus PC-12.
We transport to all Nashville hospitals and have immediate access to the region's only Level I Trauma Center, Burn Center and Children's Hospital, all at Vanderbilt. Our helicopters will carry a Nurse/MD, Nurse/Nurse or Nurse/Paramedic team. All RN helicopter crew members are dual licensed with both RN and EMT-P or EMT multi-state licenses.

Current TN Paramedic - Critical Care (PM-CC)
3 years of experience (or equivalent).
Emergency Vehicle Operations Training and VKF training is required (can be taken during the orientation period).
BLS, ACLS, PHTLS required, and TECC must be obtained within 120 days of hire.
Licensed CCEMT-P in Tennessee required, or must obtain within 1 year of hire if candidate has previous flight experience; Licensed EMT-P in Kentucky Required within 90 days of hire. Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS/ITLS, NRP, and FP-C; Additional job requirements include: 1. Medical crew members must be able to twist, bend and provide patient care in confined spaces. 2. Must be able to tolerate stressors of transport, including, but not limited to, excessive motion, vibration, and extreme temperatures. 3. Must maintain weight so as to fit into the seat belts / shoulder harnesses as provided by the aircraft or ambulance manufacturer without modification to those safety devices.
