What This Job is About:

The Director, Professional Affairs position has responsibility for leading and developing programs and projects to advance the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy’s (AMCP’s) professional and clinical initiatives. In doing so, they help our members and other stakeholders use and advance medication management tools (such as formularies, pharmacy and therapeutics committees, and medication therapy management), payment models, quality metrics, research methodologies, and health information technology. In addition, this individual will lead key elements of AMCP’s thought leadership and provide clinical and professional insights to support other departments within AMCP based on their professional experience and expertise in managed care pharmacy practice.

More specifically, key responsibilities include:

Thought Leadership Partnership Forums, Advisory Groups, and Committees

• Serve as a subject matter expert to direct, manage, and develop content for AMCP’s Partnership Forums and other events that engage experts to discuss current topics relevant to managed care pharmacy.
• Develop programs and resources based upon the recommendations and findings from AMCP’s Partnership Forums and other events.
• Direct AMCP advisory groups. This involves managing the diverse perspectives of content experts to secure internal team, member, and sponsor buy-in for advisory group tasks.
• Manage AMCP committee efforts with increased complexity (e.g., Format for Formulary Submission revision, complex or controversial committee policy digest statements, or
multiple subcommittees).

Thought Leadership and Managed Care Technical Resource

• Utilize subject matter expertise as an active participant in the association’s strategic planning process. Able to conceptualize, plan, and execute specific elements of the strategic plan with a high degree of success. In addition, identifies the most appropriate vehicle to guide thought leadership (e.g., advisory groups, focus groups, consulting projects, or member surveys).
• Identify opportunities and develop thought leadership abstracts, panel presentations, commentaries, white papers, and other materials for external dissemination.
• Keep abreast of current and emerging health care policy and practice issues that may impact managed care pharmacy settings and recommend ways for AMCP and our membership to monitor and/or lead in addressing them.
• Summarize complex information in practice briefs for members, internal staff, and non-technical stakeholders. Work in collaboration with Brand & Marketing Communications, as needed.
• Identify opportunities to actively partner with Policy & Government Relations to develop and contribute to comment letters or RFIs related to managed care pharmacy practice issues.
• Proactively engage with AMCP Collaborate and partner with the membership department to solicit issues of importance to AMCP members and deliver upon these insights.
• Contribute to communication plans to raise the visibility of AMCP’s current thought leadership initiatives.
• Represents AMCP externally through engagement with coalitions, associations, and alliances. Identifies and proactively seeks opportunities for collaboration with external partners to demonstrate the value of and advance the role of managed care pharmacy.

•     Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and deliver programs on time within scope and budget.
•     PharmD or equivalent, along with at least 6 years of experience working with 
organizations whose agendas included issues related to health professional practice, clinical population health, HEOR, or reimbursement.
•     Must have experience in health care reimbursement or managed care.
•     Prior experience managing multiple projects and providing strategic expertise is 
required.
•     Comfortable presenting on multiple topics within AMCP’s scope.
•     Demonstrate fiscal responsibility in managing budgets and contracts.
•     Commitment to advancing the organization’s desired culture, which focuses on 
collaboration, high performance, accountability, respect, and trust.
•     Ability to use database tools or managed care references or data sources (e.g., 
Purple Book, CMS Part D Manual) to glean insights for AMCP staff and members.
•     Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, 
spreadsheets, database, and presentations software (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom).
