A Hospice Physician supports the concept of hospice care services and promotes efforts to increase client access to hospice services where appropriate. They are members of the interdisciplinary team who provide overall medical direction for the Hospice Program.
High School Graduate. Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy. Current License to practice medicine in Ohio.
Possesses and maintains current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
Require board eligibility/certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Maintains and remains in good standing order with local and federal programs and regulated entities.
At least three (3) years experience in the practice of medicine.
Familiar with the philosophical and technical aspects of Hospice and Palliative care.
Expertise in pain and symptom management.
Excellent communication skills and experience with conflict resolution.
Familiar with principles of quality management and ethical issues in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Complies with accepted professional standards and principles.
Provides proper documentation that meets quality benchmarks.
Has a good sense of humor.
Is flexible and cooperative in fulfilling role obligation and has ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
Proficient in operating all computer equipment, copy machines, laser printers, fax machines, cellular phones and other office equipment
Attendance and punctuality is required for this position.
Good judgment and discretion dealing with highly confidential information. Follows HIPPA rules and regulations
Adheres to Stein Hospice Service Corporate Compliance Plan.
Completes required health screens.
Understanding of governmental regulations including, but not limited to Joint Commission.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Well organized and attentive to detail.
Ability to travel to various office settings and customer locations.
Occasional irregularity of hours including, but not limited to weekends and holidays and /or will participate in on-call duties including weekends and holidays
Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and organization requirements and is in good working order.
Essential Job Functions:
Will function under the supervision of the Medical Director.
Will become a faculty member of our HPM fellowship and will participate in teaching medical students, residents, fellows.
Work both inpatient and outpatient palliative medicine settings along with inpatient and outpatient hospice settings.
Participate in required committee meetings and educational opportunities at local hospitals and other settings.
Serves as the physician designee in the absence of the Medical Director, upon appointment by the Hospice Board of Directors, to assume the responsibilities of the Medical Director in the interim.
Demonstrate current clinical competence as evidence by participation in didactics and peer review activity.
Acts as liaison between the attending physician and the interdisciplinary team (IDT).
Facilitate communication and consults with primary physicians when necessary to ensure optimal client comfort and appropriate palliative care.
Meet with the clinical team regularly to assist in assessing, planning and evaluating care.
In conjunction with the attending physician, determines eligibility for Hospice care.
Initial certification of terminal illness.
