Job Description A key member of the University Health Services (UHS) Management Team reporting to the UHS Director, the Medical Director has 3 primary responsibilities, each of equal importance. They are ensuring clinical excellence, supporting UHS providers, and providing direct patient care.
The Medical Director has primary responsibility for monitoring, evaluating and ensuring the quality of UHS clinical services. Working from a solutions-oriented approach, the Medical Director collaborates closely with the Assistant Director of Clinical Operations to ensure medical services are in compliance with college health standards of care, applicable regulatory and licensing requirements, the mission of the University, etc. An advocate of a best-practices, data-driven approach to health care management, the Medical Director works within the Management Team to develop and implement evidence-based policies, clinical protocols, performance objectives, compliance measures, etc.
This role supports UHS providers, leading a vibrant, patient-focused, team-oriented Provider Section. Direct reports include 2 Primary Care Providers, a Primary Care/Sports Medicine Provider, Primary Care/Football Team Provider, and Psychiatrist. The Medical Director also serves as coach/mentor/trainer to non-provider clinical staff and is an enthusiastic advocate of interdisciplinary collegiality. A leader by example, the Medical Director devotes ~50% of their time to direct patient care, serving a highly-motivated, young adult population of Notre Dame students.
In partnership with the UHS Director, the Medical Director also lends a medical perspective to inform campus and department initiatives, co-manages public health event responses, and helps to guide the department to meet its vision of “exceptional college health care, infused with our Notre Dame values, to foster lifelong well-being”.
Minimum Qualifications Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) Indiana state medical license, or eligible CSR/DEA licensure Board certification in specialties Family Practice Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse, young adult population Ability to work effectively in a team-like environment with coworkers with a variety of skills levels Ability to practice within the Ethical and Religious Guidelines for Catholic Health Care Services
Preferred Qualifications Experience or interest in college health, population health, sports medicine
Note: With interest, potential opportunity exists for a Medical Director with sports medicine expertise to support a Division 1 varsity sports team.
