San Luis Valley Health is seeking a full time Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join the senior executive team. The CMO will contribute to successful management of organizational strategy, leadership, planning, trustee reporting and management of the medical staff. The function of the CMO will be shared responsibility performing in an administrative capacity overseeing and leading all Medical Staff affairs, Provider Leadership Council, Physician Integration, and other duties required of a Senior Team member. The other time will be dedicated to practitioner clinical hours in an agreed-upon area of specialty. This position offers competitive senior-level pay and benefits, including monthly cell phone stipend and eligibility for an annual variable pay bonus.
Successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
Graduate of an Accredited Medical School with current license as an MD or DO in the State of Colorado.
Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience as a practicing physician with comprehensive knowledge of physician practice.
At least 3 years’ supervisory and leadership experience, managing physician relations and/or clinical operations.
An experienced senior leader and financial health care executive with appropriate health care industry experience, preferably in an integrated delivery system.
An excellent negotiator who is experienced in provider contracting.
Sustains awareness of national healthcare trends (finance, policy and regulatory issues)
Proven ability to develop a strategic plan and operationalize its key components and is confident in his/her ability to set a direction while able to discern when a change in course or action is required, and is able to sponsor that change.
Energetic, forward-thinking and creative with high ethical standards.
Able to form effective partnerships with the Board, medical staff, executive team, community leaders and representatives of other healthcare organizations.
Visionary and skilled at helping others to align with the strategy and goals while being able to empower, assure exposure, growth and credit for others.
Fluent in the intricacies of health care financing and the associated regulatory environment and possess strong financial analytical skills.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Act as a liaison among the providers, hospital leadership and the board of trustees.
Accountable for developing and managing systems and forums that foster the transfer of knowledge, information and process improvement methodologies to administrative and clinical leadership staff. These systems will include procedures and processes supporting evidence based medicine, multidisciplinary care, utilization and resource management and operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Provides strategic clinical leadership for the organization and serves as a link between organization leadership and the provider community.
Will act as a mentor, coach and advisor with regard to both clinical and behavioral concerns with providers on the medical staff and will work with the Medical Executive Committee and Peer Review Committee for medical staff issues and Provider Leadership Council for employed physician issues.

Serves as the Community spokesperson on clinical issues.
Identifies clinical "data needs" of organization evaluating what is collected, how the data is distributed and reviewing data before it is shared with the public.
Directly supervises staff as identified, providing performance feedback, coaching, counseling and support in managing their respective departments. Works with HR when necessary to address staff performance, status, and pay issues and details.
Devotes time practicing in an agreed area of specialty within SLVH.
Other duties as assigned by the CEO to fulfill or enhance organization operations and clinical services.
